Hi,

I used projectOR for several years for tracking bugs or following work allocation but never tried to use the planification module up to now.

I was surprised by several aspects - may be I totally missed the point... :
  • Is there any way to visually distinguish between Activities on track and Activities on overrun (whatever the overrun origin : remaining work reevaluation or real work allocation exceeding the anticipated effort ? Everything stay green  ... on the Gantt diagram.
  • when a developer updates a remaining work, he or she can silently impact the whole planning. Is there a way for the project planner to be notified of the shift ? And its origin ?
  • Is there any validation possible to prevent remaining work changes without notice ? Including a what-will-happen developer curious about the impact of tuning this "weird" field just to see its effect.. .

Thanks in advance

On Gantt Diagram, you have mostly view over planning dates. Tasks become red when planned end date is over validated end date.
To have overview about work overrun, just have a look at report Work / Work synthesis per activity.

Yes, alerts can be send when planned work (real+left) is over validated or over planned work.
Have a look at indicators.

You can define alerts (as described above) of have a validation process of real work allocation.
There is possibility to submit and validate weekly real work, so that project leader has an overview about global work on project.

Is a four stage approach possible :
  1. activity definition (and dependencies)
  2. resource allocation (effort)
  3. using the gantt views, computation of the planning
  4. validated start and end dates automatic setting ? i.e. setting validated dates = planned dates globally, without manually entering each date for each activity ?

When entering real work allocation, I wonder about the differences between submit work and validate work buttons and how they affect planning computation ? No impact for instance until the project manager has validated his/her team work allocation entries ?

THX :-)

Yes, this is exactly in ProjeQtOr scope.
NB : definition of dependencies can be eased in Gantt view (drag & drop mode)
NB : to save validated dates, use correspondng button in plannong screen (the one woth the check, beside print button)

Submit button appears only if connected user is the current resource. It is for the resource to submit the weekly work.
The validate button apperas only for project leader (or other profile habilitate to...) to validate the submitted work.
Both have no effect on planning calculation : it only locks real work for the corresponding week.
