This functionnality, very usefull during tool configuration and during support activity, consist for an administrator to be connected as a user.

it allow administrator to view the application like the user.

for example, you are connected in administrator, and using a specific menu, you choose a user, and click on a button connect as, and just after you are connected in the application like you was this user, with same right, same view, same configuration.

is it possible ?

Ok but,

Today it's possible for an admin user to change anything in the user profile, whithout informing the user.

if Ldap connection is used, it's not possible to change password, and not possible to test configuration for an admin.

it's possible to send a mail to the user to inform him an admin is connected as him, this working like this (and the admin must indicate the reason why he is connected as) in the tool i talked above.

we have a testenviroment, where we have mirrored productive ProjectorRIA. Here I'm able to reproduce issues in the way Babynus described.
