import csv with activity name change?

Hello

We made some template project with several configuration like responsibility, predecessor element, successor element etc.
By copying the name of the new project can be changed, but the activity remain.
A part of the name of activity should now be replaced/added (e.g. by project number), so that these activities can be immediately identified in Kanban, because now several times the same name of activity show up and it must be selected to see to which project it belongs.
(For the gant view this is no problem, because WBS sorts it correctly below the project)

I've seen another topic in the forum which is very similar.

Now the question:
When importing a csv, can somehow the ID of an element be higher prioritized than the name?
Because the id of the element and the reference are given (and exist already), but because the name doesn't match it will create a new activity, with new id, instead of updating the existing one.

I know that this could be solved by importing several csv, but this must be very accurate and in correct order imported and is much more complicate than the perfect working copy of project.

The rule is simple : if ID is set, the item with corresponding ID is updated, else, new item is created.
You can easily update activities names afterwards : export to csv (id and name is enough), update name (you can use Excel features), save as CSV and reimport...

I've made some test again and found a solution, but also discovered that the first column is ignored at import...

Here is the starting point of the activity which i chose for testing

1) I did the test as you described: id and name

2) I added the columns it complained the result is like in the original statement, that it made a new acitivity.

3) I've seen that the first column has a different color, so i inserted a dummy column now it updated the ticket as wished

4) Back to start i added the dummy column before id and name --> now it worked

I don't know if this is a bug or if i missed something in the manual

Hi,

Very strange.
I don't reproduce issue.
For me, id on first place is correctly taken into accound (not greyed).
It bahaves as if you have an extra invisible character at start of line.
Can you plase try to export csv file from list, exporting only id and name.
Then directly re-import file without any change.
Do you still reproduce the issue ?

Hi,

I did export/import directly with id and name without any problem.
I've checked the generated filse and the direct import export and taught first, that it is because of missing quotation mark for the string or the missing semicolon after the second column but this didn't help. (I've checked it with notepad ++ and showed special characters etc. but the content seamed to be identical.)

But finally I found the difference.
Somehow excel chose to store the .csv as encoding UTF8+BOM. (could be seen in Notepad++ --> Encoding )

After switching the encoding in Notpad++ to UTF8 (without BOM) the import worked with the file I used for the first test.

You will be able to reproduce it, if you open the export with Notepad++, switch the encoding to UTF-8-BOM, store the change and import again.

Hi,

We'll add a patch to remove BOM in next version
