Need help to convince IT Projeqtor is secure to use

We were looking into installing a trial sandbox at my workplace. IT is refusing on the assumption free open source is not secure. I'm not an expert on security, but I'm not without basic knowledge. For me that assumption is contrary to the principle of open-source, where community can review code for security issues (even though the quality of it being based on statistical coverage of review). But then, even with vulnerabilities, like anything else, we are looking to have a server behind firewall and remote connections through VPN always. We are already doing so with other business tools after all.

So at this point I'm looking into a sales pitch regarding security aspect of Projeqtor more specifically. Your community help would be most appreciated.

the path of least resistance which some IT departments prefer is often harder to divert than any security issue; if you can't solve the problem, change the problem; easiest solution is to host an instance at projector.org

It is indeed a known possibility, but one of the main interest is to be able to connect Projeqtor database with the rest of our management information system. We do have a small team with that expertise internally. There are some very interesting scenarios when it comes to custom dashboards and reports with information coming from Projeqtor as well as other databases.

We do have contacts with Aldes, which is on the list of companies using Projeqtor. So we got some independent feedback from them. Positive feedbacks, so we're getting there slowly...
