[SOLVED] Microsoft Project knowledge transfer to ProjeQtor

Hello,

We have used Microsoft Project for many years in developing individual project plans and are currently looking at ProjeQtor as it will allow us to provide online access to project members and it can show multiple projects. We are having a few problems transferring our Project knowledge over. I could not find anywhere that this is documented so I thought I would put the question out there and see if it is valuable to more than us and if anyone can help identify how to accomplish the same thing in ProjeQtOr.

MS Project Activity Links
  • Start to Start (SS) - This schedules the activity to start at the same date as it's linked activity
  • Start to Finish (SF) - This schedules the activities end date to be the same date as the start date of it's linked activity. This one is really just scheduling a successor instead of a predecessor.
  • Finish to Start (FS) - This is the default, this schedules the activity to start after the end date of it's linked activity
  • Finish to Finish (FF) - This schedules the activities end date to be the same as the end date of it's linked activity
In ProjeQtOr, it seems that you only have the choice of Finish to Start. Is there a way to schedule linked activities to start or finish on the same date?

Another concept is how Planning works in ProjeQtor. In MS Project, our use is simple, we just put together a schedule based on task duration's and links and all tasks are set to as soon as possible. This allows us to just change the project start date, or increase the duration of a task, or manually set a start date of a task and all the following dates will adjust. We do not use the work effor for scheduling. What is the best way to accomplish in ProjeQtOr? Should we set all activities to fixed duration?

One additional question for now, is there a way in the planning mode to expand group levels one at a time. It seems like it is either collapse all or expand all.

n ProjeQtOr, it seems that you only have the choice of Finish to Start.

Yes.

Start to Start (SS) - This schedules the activity to start at the same date as it's linked activity

Add milestone as prior of both tasks.

Start to Finish (SF)

Define a Finish to Start in the other way round.

Finish to Start (FS)

This is the only existing in ProjeQtOr

Finish to Finish (FF)

Cannot reproduce in ProjeQtOr : this one will need a reverse planning and may introduce overloading for resources, what is not possible in ProjeQtOr.

Another concept is how Planning works in ProjeQtor

ProjeQtOr is "work driven" (called Effort driven in MS-Project)

We do not use the work effor for scheduling. What is the best way to accomplish in ProjeQtOr?

Use fix duration planning mode. You can set is as default planning mode (in Activity type)

Should we set all activities to fixed duration?

Yes, if you do not use effort driven planning.

is there a way in the planning mode to expand group levels one at a time

No, but it is subject of Ticket #1744.

Thank you. Is this worth a section in the user Guide or a FAQ?
