Sometimes a running project has to be halted (paused), and the manpower needs to be diverted to other tasks/projects.
This is particularly true of small organizations that work in unpredictable business.
To handle this, there should be a feature as follows:
split all tasks at "TODAY"
keep the remainder of the project (Gantt Chart) in suspension.
All the resources are un-allocated from the project only for the suspension period, so that they can move on to other tasks/projects
When it is convenient to resume the project, the PM enters a date to start the remainder of the project
When the project resumes, all the resources automatically get re-allocated to the project
Thanks for the tip. I am still not clear about the date part: Which date should I change?
Is it the Validated Start date (encircled in the attached screenshot)?
The screenshot was taken from our dummy project, and the Validated start date is blank.
So, as I understand, if I enter a "far in future" date (just to hold off the project), the execution will halt, and the resources can be assigned other project activities and tickets, right?
As I understand, baseline saves the original plan for later comparison.
This is a good practice, but it is not an essential part of the trick. Correct?
You've got several ways to do.
The way I was thinking of, is just change date that appears in the pop-up when you run planning calculation (below selection of project to replan). It is the easiest may.
I tried this, and it did not work! The Gantt chart remains unchanged (see screenshot).
In any case, this solution is not so intuitive
1. The fix planning checkbox ins in the Projects menu, and located deep inside the Treatment section.
2. The Run plan control is provided in the Planning menu.
Desired: The Fix planning check box should be part of the dialog that pops up when we click on Run plan button
