[SOLVED] Issue with Project Structure Copy - Validity Dates and Duration

Hi There,

Happy New Year!!

ProjeQtOr Version: 11.4.2

I have been using the "Copy the current Project" feature with the selection of "Copy project structure (activities & milestones)" and "Directly move to status "recorded" to create a new planning structure based on an existing one. While the project structure is created as expected, I've noticed that the "Validity Start/end dates" and "Duration" fields are not blanked out in the new project's activities, as I would have anticipated.Specifically, I am experiencing the following:

* The "Validity Start/end dates" are copied from the original project, which I was able to address by using a filter for "not blank" dates and then updating them.
* However, the "Duration" field in the copied activities is also copied from the original project, and I am unable to update these durations to be blank using the filter because I could not find "duration" column in filter and same column not showing in "Multiple update", when I tried in "activities" menu/option.Ideally, I would like the newly copied project structure to have blank "Validity Start/end dates" and blank "Duration" fields for all activities. I have been trying to address the duration issues through filters and updates, but without success. My question is: Could you offer any guidance on how I can update the copied project to have blank "Duration" fields in all of its activities where the "Duration" field was not originally blank? Is there a way to handle this situation to either have that result during the copy process or in another step after the copy?I understand that this is an open-source software, and I am not demanding a solution. However, any advice or suggestions you could offer would be incredibly helpful.Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hi and happy new year too !

...because I couldn't find the "Duration" column in the filter

go through the column again you must have missed them...

and the same column doesn't appear in "Multiple Update", when I tried in "Activities"

Ideally, I would like the newly copied project structure to have blank "Validity Start/end dates" and blank "Duration" fields for all activities. I have been trying to address the duration issues through filters and updates, but without success

the purpose of a copy is to copy... if you don't want to retrieve the dates why don't you use the template type  for your projects ? and if filters are too complicated for you to use, why not use the validate planning .

    Hi Arkhanje,

Thank you for your generous help and for the detailed and helpful guidance you've provided; we really appreciate it. I've answered your questions/suggestions below:

Regarding the column review: You’re absolutely correct, I should have gone through the columns more carefully. For the other columns, I had no trouble, but for “duration”, I mistakenly used a search by the starting characters "duration", it was my fault.

Templates vs. Copies: We appreciate the point about templates. The reason we are currently using project copies is that our projects are quite varied with no consistent structure. For this reason, we are using previous projects as references. Currently, we have 30 projects – some for new business and others live.

Filters vs. Validate Planning: Yes, validate Planning is the right approach. We are in the early stages of developing our processes and not adding planning dates and are now looking at the timings for project activities as part of this.  And filter is a very fine feature for me, it is not complicated for me.

Thanks again for your prompt help with comprehensive understanding/guidance.
