Hi, I'm new to this method of project management and I have some doubts about how this works. I work in a dub and sound postproduction studio. We actually work in a very messy way and i'm looking to implement this soft that I think i'd be very useful for us.
I read the ppt manual but I still have some doubts, And I don't know if I'm doing the right implementation.

The supervisor who receive the order from the customer, will create the order in the projector and the an empty project as is required field. Then as an answer to this, the project manager will create the quotation with a more exact cost and budget. Then the supervisor will update and accept the quotation and the order.
Then the manager will add all the sub proyects, actitivties, tasks and resources to each one.

If this procedure is right I wonder if the numbers and date will update automatically to the project or the manager will have to input manually, and if this happen on a change of status.

thank you

Hi,

The "ideal" way to do is :
Draw quotation from request
When quotation is accepted, customer sends an order that is recorded (copying the quotation can be a good way)
When work is done, order can be copied to generate bill.

But in your case you say you receive Order before Quotation.
This seems stange to me. It seems it is a request (generally recorded as a Ticket) rather than an order (as no quotation has been done).
But ProjeQtOr allows any process, so yours can work.

I wonder if the numbers and date will update automatically to the project

Which number and which dates do you expect to update automatically ?

Well, quotation before the order makes sense. So the request could be made by a ticket, I understand.
The reason why we get an straight order from the customer is because we work on fixed price per minute of product for the different services we provide. So the customer already knows the quotation.

The change I'd like to implement is internal quotation and budgeting that nowadays is a really mess, because despite of the fixed price to us the cost of producing the product is variable, as not every film or TV show is the same.

Would make more sense if, the supervisor creates a ticket as request for a project. Then the manager in charge creates the quotation, once it is accepted the order and the project are created, and there begins the creation of sub projects, tasks, scheduling, etc

the numbers and dates I expect to automatically be filled in the fields of the project are costs and expenses from the quotation or the order, validated start, end dates and duration.

No, data are not created from order to project.
In fact, orders are generally created after the project...
You'll have to create Costs (resource costs) and expenses (project expense) on the project to detail these items.
The dates are defined from sub-projects and sub-tasks. No copy from order exist.
