Request: time recording

Hi Babynus,

important reasons to make time recording. To see:

1. burn rate for financial purpose
2. work for resouce planning and allocation
3. progress for work

Suggestion:

1. Develope time recording sheet for registered ressouces. They should select project and activity and enter burned efforts for each day. From my pov recorded efforts could be store with activity record.
2. And expectedly reports for team member and project manager as well for activity and whole project monthly and total.
3. Burned days should be subtracted from available capacity of ressouces and from planned work value of activity to see what workload left; or if planned value is overdraft.

Hi,

I don't understand your request.
What is a "burned day", a "burn rate" ?
Is is comparable to real work ?
Can you give examples ?

Thanks.
Babynus.

Sorry for using this terms, not explaining them.

Burned days are real efforts, elapsed time during work. Sometimes it's called "actual efforts" or "actual work". I assume it's similar to your real work.

Burn rate is average of actual efforts. This is used to calculate ETC (Estimation To Complete), which could answer either if you can meet planned end date or if you can meet planned costs / work.

Hi,

OK, I think this is just a question of vocabulary...

What you call Burned days is "real work".
So, the time recording sheet is exactly the "imputation screen" : resources enter here their real work.
(for information, they can also see here the planned activity ...)

What you call burn rate is "Progress".
Basis for work data in Project'Or RIA are :
- validated = manually entered "commited" work (as negociated with customer...) = sold work in many cases
- assigned = sum of work assigned (initaly planned) to resources
- real = real work, realy spent = what is entered in Imputation screen
- left = left work to finish the activity. By defaut caculated as "assigned-real", but should be modified by resource on imputation screen
- planned = new total work = real + left

So, burn rate = progress = real / planned = real / (real + left).

You can see progress on some reports.
Maybe it can be improved, just point out reports where information is expected.

What would be interesting, is to compare progress with initaly planned progress at the same time.
For this, a new functionality must be implemented : store initial planning (evolution under study).
First approach with actual data is to compare :
- real / assigned (initaly planned burn rate at actual cost)
- real / planned (progress)
but this will not tell you if you will be on time, all depends on the critical way...

Regards.
Babynus.
